MUSC 1560 -  Audio Production II: Tracking Techniques  (3 Credits)  
Studies include theoretical and practical music production techniques with topics covering digital audio workstations, signal flow, digital signal processing, MIDI production, synthesis, and sampling. Team lab recording projects involve recording, mixing, and other music production techniques.

MUSC 1561 -  Digital Audio Workstations Applications  (3 Credits)  
Students will complete the required Pro Tools 110 coursework and learn an overview of other leading digital audio workstations used in the audio industry. Students are intended to have working knowledge of how to effectively utilize digital audio workstations upon completion of the course.

MUSC 1600 -  International Perspectives & Global Reach of Musics from Mexico  (3 Credits)  
This course encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively (writing, verbal, and digital), and ideate creatively with an international perspective. The international and global reach of musics from Mexico is extensive and diverse. The history and cultural/social contexts, geographic and historical considerations, instrumentation, song lyrics, choreography, and performance practice are linked to many academic research disciplines. This course will draw on international perspectives informed by discipline-based approaches from areas such as anthropology, communication, economics, history, ethnomusicology, Spanish, and political science to provide vibrant contexts grounded in international issues, theories, and discourse.

MUSC 1800 -  Acoustics for Audio Production  (3 Credits)  
This course studies the nature of sound and practical applications for critical listening and recording environments. Topics include the nature of sound, studio and concert hall design measurement and analysis.

MUSC 2125 -  Electronic Music Production Techniques  (3 Credits)  
Students will learn contemporary electronic music techniques using current software. The class will include MIDI sequencing, looping, sampling, FM synthesis, subtractive synthesis, and wavetable synthesis. Students will also learn how to appropriately use effects and digital editing.

MUSC 2444 -  Film Scoring  (3 Credits)  
This course introduces students to concepts of film music composition, storytelling through music and application of film scoring techniques. It will introduce various stages of the process of creating original music for film. The course will also cover analysis of scores, topics on history of film, interviews with famous film composers, instrumentation, orchestration, and compositional techniques, as well as application of those to music for film. The course will include lectures, projects, and assignments. In addition, this course facilitates students’ learning through collaborative projects with students from the Film & Television Department.

MUSC 2550 -  Critical Listening for Recording Arts  (3 Credits)  
Students will be trained to recognize: boosts and cuts in different bands of frequencies at increasingly small increments, types of distortion, parameters for compression, delay, reverb and stereo imaging. Students will develop a vocabulary for describing sounds and improving auditory memory.

MUSC 2580 -  Audio Production III: Mixing Techniques  (3 Credits)

This course examines ethical issues associated with the music industry and the ethical duties of organizations, leaders, employees, and artists. The course analyses how to balance duties to different stakeholders, and how to consider the implications of business decisions. Topics include ethical concepts, personal integrity, individual conscience, and company loyalty and conflict of interests as they impact on the decision process in the functional areas of music organizations.

Interdisciplinary course on acoustic ecology, sound art, and music technology. MUSC 4570 -  Career Development in Audio  (3 Credits)  
Students will develop career skills through networking with industry professionals, exploring different career options, and refining their professional audio skills through peer feedback and collaboration. Upon completion of the course, students should have a greater understanding of their career options and practical knowledge of the necessary steps towards that path.

MUSC 4575 -  Surround Sound  (3 Credits)  
This lecture-lab course deals with surround sound in film, digital TV and DVDs. Topics include monitoring, microphone techniques, recording, mixing, mastering, delivery formats and psychoacoustics. Students work on two lab projects in the semester. Cross-listed with MSRA 5575.

MUSC 4800 -  Music Industry Entrepreneurship  (3 Credits)  
MIE is a project-based course focused on individual entrepreneurial endeavors. Students will supply their own business, music, multi-media or audio projects. The class will focus on principles of entrepreneurship and helping student’s develop those projects into viable businesses or creative releases.
